Eric is the principal and founder of Ecotype Consulting. He is a licensed architect, dedicating his career to the practice of sustainable design and development for the past eight years. He founded Ecotype Consulting in order to respond to the ever-increasing demand for green building consulting, code compliance, and commissioning in California.

Eric provides organizations with the unique expertise necessary to plan, design, build, certify, and occupy environmentally responsible and energy efficient “green” buildings. His prime directive is to optimize the communication effort between project stakeholders, ensure adherence to project sustainability goals, and take responsibility for the necessary calculations, documentation, and technical analyses that can often distract the project team from their critical tasks.

He established Ecotype Consulting with the fundamental belief that ecology, economy, and society are the three legs that support sustainability. For that reason, he takes a holistic and pragmatic approach to the practice. Sustainable design cannot be viewed solely through the lens of environmental responsibility; it must be practical, affordable, accessible, educational, and human-centered. Sustainable design is also a multi-disciplinary effort, which requires open, direct, and focused communication.

Eric has been active on the Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) Technical Committee, the California Department of Water Resources Alluvial Fan Task Force, and the AIA Inland California Blueprint for America Task Force. He served on the City of Redlands Planning Commission, and is the former vice-chair of Redlands’ Historic and Scenic Preservation Commission. He was an executive committee member of Redland’s Sustainability Task Force, charged with leading the development of green building standards for the City.

Eric holds a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in architecture and art/art history and a Bachelor of Architecture, both from Rice University. He has been a licensed Architect in the state of California since 2003, and is accredited with the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB). He is an ASHRAE-certified Commissioning Process Management Professional, a LEED® Accredited Professional since 2003, and a member of the American Institute of Architects, US Green Building Council, ASHRAE, and the California Association of Building Energy Consultants.
