Ecotype Consulting was established with the fundamental belief that ecology, economy, and society are the three legs that support sustainability. For that reason, we take a holistic and pragmatic approach to the practice. Sustainable design cannot be viewed solely through the lens of environmental responsibility; it must be practical, affordable, accessible, educational, and human–focused. Sustainable design is also a multi–disciplinary effort, which requires open, direct, and focused communication.
Ecotype Consulting is located in the heart of downtown Redlands, California situated between the Los Angeles metro region and California’s inland desert region. We are members of the US Green Building Council, the American Institute of Architects, ASHRAE, the California Association of Building Energy Consultants, and the Cheese of the Month Club. Ecotype is an S–corporation, incorporated in the state of California. We are a California–certified Micro Business (MB) enterprise.
Mr. Eric Shamp, AIA, is the Principal of Ecotype Consulting. He has established an excellent reputation for developing client-responsive, cost-effective sustainable design strategies. He has assisted large organizations in establishing sustainability programs, including Los Angeles Unified School District, the California State University Chancellor's Office, Kaiser Permanente, the City of Redlands, and the Cucamonga Valley Water District.
By locating Ecotype Consulting in a historic, daylit building within biking distance of his home in Redlands, Eric has reduced his carbon footprint by 50%, thereby integrating sustainable practices (and a myriad of bicycles) into his everyday life.

Lesley Swick, a project manager at Ecotype Consulting, earned her Masters in Architecture from Cal Poly Pomona, where she catalyzed the creation of the sustainability emphasis in the architecture program. She has attempted to live sustainably for more than 15 years, partly by aspiring to be a “locavore” (local food–eater), growing some of her own food and shopping at local farmer’s markets whenever possible.
Ms. Swick challenges the preconceptions of mainstream parenting as she and her husband attempt to raise a healthy baby in a chemical–free environment. Ms. Swick is currently learning how to juggle, both figuratively and literally.
