About us

Who we are

Our advantages

1

We have diverse experience across the AEC industry
We've worked in architecture, mechanical engineering, construction, lighting design, commissioning, facilities management, and planning. We've worked for private companies, non-profits, and local government. We have unique insight into the ways project stakeholders communicate with each other. We are able to communicate and verify the Owner's green building goals through every step of the development process.

2

We'll be blunt
Green buildings cost more to design and build. That's not a bad thing, as long as there is a suitable return on that additional investment. Budgets are a non-renewable resource, and they have to be used conservatively, like any other limited resource. We help you to optimize spending and align green building ambitions with project budgets.

3

We are a LEED Proven Provider
Ecotype Consulting has been recognized as a LEED® Proven Provider™ for the Building Design and Construction rating system family by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI). With that designation, Ecotype Consulting can work together with LEED reviewers, allowing us to further invest in quality control and continuous improvement and allowing for early and direct engagement with the LEED review team.

Our services

  • Building energy analysis

Double screens and double cups of coffee... essential tools for design-phase building energy analysis. We also use a couple of analysis and code-compliance applications: CBECC, Energy Pro, ASHRAE-55 Thermal Comfort Tool, PV Watts, Solar Pro, ASHRAE-62 ventilation calculator, and others. Energy modeling is an incredibly useful tool if implemented early enough in the design phase.…

  • California certified lighting acceptance testing

Lately, building inspectors have been asking for Title 24 BEES lighting acceptance test forms before issuing a certificate of occupancy. Electrical and general contractors: don't get caught flat-footed without complete forms in hand. There are three required certificates for all lighting controls mandated by Title 24 BEES: NRCC - Nonresidential Certificate of Compliance. These are produced…

  • CALGreen compliance consulting

The California Green Building Code (Title 24, Part 11, better known as CALGreen) sets minimum green building requirements for all new construction in California. It is the first and only of it's kind in the US, and looks to become more stringent with each three-year revision cycle. One unique aspect of this code is that…

  • LEED consulting

Ecotype Consulting understands the quirks of the LEED certification process. LEED is constantly evolving, and staying on top of the changes requires vigilance, good quality control practices, and adaptability. Our approach to LEED consulting is to manage and simplify the LEED certification process so that you and your team can remain focused on core competencies. Our LEED consulting…

  • LEED construction administration

LEED construction requirements can be a time-intensive process. If you miss a LEED goal, it can result in cost overruns, project delays, and even liquidated damages. Bid documents can contain LEED requirements that are poorly written, in conflict with each other, or are plain unnecessary. Sometimes the architect or the owner has a LEED consultant on their side. When that happens, you'll appreciate having…

  • Commissioning

Commissioning is a quality assurance process for developing high-performance buildings. It is an owner's process, which means that the owner sets the expectations, we verify compliance with those expectations at every step of the way, and we report back to the owner how well those expectations have been met. We have almost ten years of experience in leading…
